Types of vaccinations we provide

Vaccinations stimulate the body’s immune system to protect against specific diseases, helping to prevent the spread of contagious illnesses and reducing mortality rates worldwide. At MedWise® Urgent Care, we offer seasonal flu vaccines (flu shots) at all of our clinic locations to help protect against the flu.

SEASONAL FLU VACCINES - FLU SHOT

The influenza vaccine helps prevent the flu, a contagious illness that typically spreads from October to May. The CDC recommends that everyone six months and older receive the flu vaccine each season. The flu vaccine does not cause the flu and can be given alongside other vaccines.

Pregnant individuals are advised to receive the inactivated influenza vaccine during flu season. Be sure to inform your MedWise® provider if you (1) have had an allergic reaction to a flu vaccine before, or have life-threatening allergies, or (2) have ever experienced Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS).

Vaccines NOT Provided by MedWise® Urgent Care

At this time, MedWise® Urgent Care does not offer routine childhood immunizations for well-child visits, such as MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), IPV (polio), or varicella (chickenpox). Please consult with your child’s school, healthcare provider, or the CDC to determine which vaccinations are required or recommended for your family.

Vaccinations FAQs.

When should I get my flu shot?

The CDC recommends getting a flu shot each year, preferably before the flu season begins in October. However, you can receive the vaccine throughout the season, as the flu virus can circulate until May.

Who should not get a flu shot?

People who have had severe allergic reactions to previous flu vaccines or those with certain allergies should consult with their healthcare provider before receiving the flu shot. Additionally, those with a history of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) should also speak with their doctor.

Can I get the flu vaccine if I am pregnant?

Yes, the CDC recommends that pregnant individuals receive the inactivated flu vaccine during flu season to protect themselves and their unborn child.

What are the potential side effects of the flu vaccine?

The most common side effects of the flu vaccine are mild and include soreness at the injection site, headache, and mild fever. Serious side effects are rare, but if you experience difficulty breathing or severe swelling, seek medical attention immediately.

Can the flu shot give me the flu?

No, the flu shot does not cause the flu. The vaccine contains an inactivated virus that helps your immune system recognize and fight the virus if you are exposed to it later.
